Livingston's sound comes from a rich mix of diverse international backgrounds and influences. The band began in 2003 when vocalist, Beukes Willemse, who had left South Africa to pursue a solo career in London, felt that he needed the backing of a band to enhance his acoustic performances. Beukes then approached guitarist, Chris van Niekerk, asking him to fly over from South Africa to add some depth to the band, both spiritually and musically. Following a few acoustic gigs, Chris who was in touch with Paolo Serafini, asked the eager Italian drummer to engage in the unit.
The band was convinced they had found the right sound until German guitarist, Jakob Nebel, caught the attention of Beukes after a gig. It was certain that Jakob was the last missing link for the group after only their first gig as a quartet. However, once they had the strong undertone of Norwegian bassist, Christoffer Borud, they invited him on board and Livingston was complete.
Inspired by various music styles such as rock, indie and world music the band are working their way through venues across Europe to perform and grab the attention of keen listeners.
Since winning the competition last year, Livingston have enjoyed a recording session at Abbey Road Studios, they have received rave reviews in the press and they have toured the UK, Ireland and Greece, performing at 'Beached' in Scarborough, the Dublin Fringe Festival and 'Rock on the Beach' on Mykonos.
In the coming months Livingston will be touring the US and South Africa, as well as performing at the summer festivals across Europe.
